Demonsmoke

Sonny92 Thick and sludgy doom that obviously owes a debt to Electric Wizard's album from whence the band get their name, although I would argue the songs are more straightforward than on that classic and more directly derived from Tony Iommi's great Sabbath riffs. It would also be remiss of me not to mention the vocals, which are the feature most likely to divide opinion, being black metal-derived, rather than from the sludge or doom tradition. Personally, I quite like them. Favorite track: Psychic Vampire.

Jeff Treppel This is dope… Throne. Get it? I'll be here all week.

Matthew Rukgaber On this, their first release, the vocals seem a little more guttural, the guitars a little bluesier, and the production sounds more echo-y. But in a way Demonsmoke and the most recent 1312 are their most accessible records. Stoner swagger is slathered on these scuzzy, shorter songs. Kings of nihilistic sludge. Favorite track: Wizard's Sleeve.

about

"Crushing, crippling, crawling and crusty- everything you want stoner metal to be. This album is so stoned that even the gurgling raspy growl of the vocalist and the bubbly reverberated clean guitar tone sounds like a bong hit. From it's very first (sampled) bong rip at the end of the opening track, to it's las...t (metaphorical) draw, Demonsmoke will somehow get you higher than a kite and at the same time grind you up finer than two ounces of Colombian Gold. This high comes highly recommended."
-A DUDE FROM ULTIMATE GUITAR

The Throne was established in March 2008 as a completely D.I.Y. project, in the very core of Hochelaga (MT-HELL) Canada.

The riffs are total stoner rock nirvana, big and thick and groovy and catchy, occasionally getting crunchy and chuggy, the drums muscley and pounding, the most interesting thing are the super processed almost black metal sounding vox, which definitely transform the sound into something else entirely. Which is one of the things that makes these guys tough to pin down.

Dopethrone lace their songs with plenty of samples, most about drugs of course, and those vocals definitely tie everything together, and help make these guys sound different than the rest of their stoner/sludge brethren, and make this one of the best chunks of slow and low heaviness... BURN HEAVY)))

about

DOPETHRONE Montréal, Québec

The heaviest D.I.Y. trio from Canada, Dopethrone, was born in 2008 in Hochelaga, Montreal’s trashiest Ghetto. They encompass the bleakness of black metal, the steadfastness of New Orleans-style sludge, and a heavier-than-thou doom mentality. The riffs are thick, punishing, suffocating and destructive. The Demonic vocals are harsh, visceral and animal-like. And the mood is heavy and oppresive. ... more
